Hard to believe it’s been two years ago since Katrina changed a lot of lives including mine. Growing up in Mississippi I had always been exposed to hurricanes and had always heard stories from my family about Hurricane Camille since my parents were living on the gulf coast when it hit. There was no way that I could understand the power and destructive force that comes with a storm of that magnitude. The best way to explain what happened is to go back into the archives…So here are some posts leading up to Katrina and in the days after (once power was restored at the university).
August 28 2005 - Gulf Coast…Bend Over
August 28 2005 - Deceptivly-calm
After the Power Issues post we lost power. Here are some posts from when we got power back at the university.
September 03 2005 - Still Alive
September 03 2005 - Later In The Day
September 03 2005 - Still Recovering
There are a few more posts after that but those hit the heart of what happened. I didn’t blog a lot of it since it was just so damn depressing. Here are a few pics from my apt and a few from the surrounding community.
A lot has happened in the two years since Katrina. I’m in a very good place now and as much as that whole time sucked it really did lead to a lot of great things.

3Yeah that was a hard time and I live 70 miles from the coast, To this day I see the evidence of Katrina. I was done at the coast this weekend riding the bike and in Long Beach where you stayed Jake, there is still nothing there. No houses no business, just slabs and broken homes. Speaking of Camille Its fitting that when you get to 90 and you near the boat sitting on the side of the road called S.S. Camille starts the nothingness that is the coast. I still cringe every time I hear tropical disturbance and all I want to do is stock fuel and water. I don’t know that I could go 17 day with out either again.
