Wow..That’s just all I can say..A user who I helped over a year ago just stopped by my desk and gave me a handwritten thank you card and a cupcake for fixing her computer her first day at Red Hat *over* a year ago!
This is me speechless…

Even though I’m not a fan of Jave, this makes me proud to work at Red Hat. Congrats to all involved in making this happen!
Rich Sharples’ Blog » Blog Archive » Java is finally Free and Open
As of writing, Fedora 9 is the only operating system to include a free and open Java SE 6 implementation that has passed the Java TCK. All of the code that makes this possible has been made available to the IcedTea project so everyone can benefit from the work.

Finally!!!! For those of you who use Linux AmazonMP3 is the way to go for pay downloads. There is no DRM and the rips are a very high quality (256k). I’ve been using AmazonMP3 for a few days now and they have a really good selection of music from current artists to oldies…So far I’ve purchased the new R.E.M album and an album by Warren G which I used to listen to in the tape deck of my first truck ;-).
The Fedora 8 RPM that AmazonMP3 provides for their downloader works perfectly with no tweaking. Just install it and go. The downloader is only needed if you buy entire albums. For single songs you can buy and download with your browser’s download manager.
Two thumbs up Amazon! Thank you very much! ![]()

Ok…So a while back I said I had some big news but I wasn’t going to say anything else about it until I was for sure…Well…I’m for sure.. Kate and I started looking for a house a few months back. Just getting an idea of what we wanted. Around April 1st we found out that a house we both liked. The people that own were in a situation that they had to sell..
Soooo…We bought it!!!!
We haven’t offically signed the paperwork yet..Closing is scheduled for next Monday. On May 1st the house will be ours. Now for some stats on the house:
And now..Pictures

So today I decided today that it was time for a new tattoo. Kate found a Japanese Kanji symbol meaning eternity. It also has the initials of both our first names so it means a couple of things to us. I found a really nice shop here in Cary called Warlocks Tattoo. They have really good artists and are extremely clean. It seems the tattoo profession is more regulated here than anywhere else i’ve lived.
And guess who else got a tattoo today??? Kate did!!!!!!!!!!. So without further adieu…The pictures!
Head over to Kate’s site to see the rest of the pics.

I really love this time of year. It warms up enough during the day to be really comfortable at night. When I lived in Mississippi and couldn’t sleep i’d jump on my bike and put my ipod on random and just ride. It was so relaxing to ride along the beach with no one else on the roads. After Katrina I tried to do the same thing when I moved back to Hattiesburg but it just wasn’t the same. I had to damn near ride out to where I grew up to find a place where no one was and that was just too much riding.

As of 12pm EDT Red Hat Enterprise Linux has been unleased into the wild. Not only as someone who works at Red Hat but also someone who has been using RHEL5 since Beta 1 release I am truly impressed at the overall performance and feel of RHEL5. With full Xen VIrtualization support built in this can revolutionize the way servers are setup. I have been using VMWare , which is the proprietary virtual machine company, at home and I’m really looking forward to giving Xen my full support…

I made it home Saturday around 5pm. The drive was ok until I got into Alabama. The wind was unbeliveable from around Birmingham until I got to my Dad’s house, to the point I couldn’t accelerate going on flat land without down shifting. And add to the fact that my jeep isn’t the most aerodynamic vehicle on the road.
Sunday I drove out to where I grew up. I wanted to go check out the barn that I have all my stuff stored it. I wasn’t able to get up there after Katrina since the people that own the house and are leasing the land did not bushhog the field. Kate and I tried to get up there but I was afraid that my exhaust pipe would start a fire. It rained Saturday night so it was nice and mucky and since I had the jeep I dropped it into 4H and played a bit. I got up to the house and to my surprise everything was locked up and nothing, that I could tell, was missing. Inside it was in pretty bad shape tho…I could tell there were rats nesting everywhere and I saw a few snake skins as well. Most of my stuff is a total loss. Mold was covering pretty much everything else that wasn’t chewed up by the rats. I should have gotten proper storage for that stuff a long time ago.

I found out today that I have been promoted. I won’t get into the pay raise but let me tell you it’s the biggest pay raise I’ve every gotten at any job. With this promotion comes a lot more responsibilty which is going to force me to look at how I organize myself. Currently I use 30 boxes to setup reminders and then 30 Boxes sends me an SMS message over my phone. I have never been an “organized” person per se. I know where everything is, but I don’t really have a method of keeping up with everything.
