Email Aliases
I’ve have never in my life seen grown folks act like some of the people where I work regarding mail aliases. Personally I think mail aliases should be firstname.lastname or first intial lastname..Something like joe.blow@work.com or jblow@work.com. I love hearing the arguement “Well I’ve had this alias for X years with Y company.” My response, “Great! Go back and work for them if it’s so damn important to you.” I don’t care that your customers know you as whatever..I’d be willing to bet that if you *tell* them your new email or perhaps, and this is a stretch, give them a business card with your new email *gasp*, they just might be able to track you down in this crazy, zany world we live in…And I don’t buy the “I’ve lost so much business because I don’t have my special pony email address”.. Bullshit…The only reason you’ve lost business is you haven’t made the effort to *communicate* your new email address to your customer…The world has rules, company’s have rules..If you don’t like them, quit.
I find non-descriptive aliases annoying and unprofessional..Something like jfw@work.com drives me insane. You are not at home!! This is not your mailserver!! You work for a publicly traded company!! If these guys spent even half as much time *doing* their damn jobs instead of bitching about a goddamn email alias the entire company would be making a lot more money. Times change and company’s have to grow up…And in growing up you can simply give every user whatever the hell they want…Things just don’t work like that.
When I was in the Army I was told by my platoon leader that there are 4 ways to do things:
- Your way
- My Way
- The Army Way
- The Highway
And he said your choice is any combo of 3 and 4.
Yes this is a rant…These are my views and mine alone. If you want my “nice” reply come work for my company and catch me between the hours of 8am - 5pm. Otherwise STFU and GBTW..

I don’t mind people who put quotes in their email signature. I’ve come across some pretty good quotes that way. But when you quote *yourself* in your email signature…You sir are a jackass. And nevermind that it’s a stupid quote..Jackass.

So last night around 1am Merlin let loose with some really loud barks. Normally he does this so I didn’t think anything about. I let him out, he did his business and then I put him to bed. About 30min later I noticed the distinct flashing of police lights out front. I got up and walked outside and apparently some idiots took 8 large stones that line a bed on my property and lined them up across the road.
And you guessed it, someone hit them. Luckily no one was hurt but when they hit the stones it flattened both front tires and ripped the oil pan from underneath the vehicle. Now there is a huge oil slick in front of the house.
I just don’t understand people. When I was kid we used to roll yards. And that only happened in Oct close to Halloween. And we only rolled yards of people we liked. Then we’d go help clean up the mess the next day. I guess times change. Now destroying someone’s car is the thing to do…Fucking retards.

- User: I don’t understand
- Me: Ummm….What??? What don’t you understand??
- User: Any of it…I just don’t understand.
- Me: Uhhhh….Well…ok..Reach behind the pc find the bottom most cord and unplug it, plug it back in and turn the pc back on. Think you can handle that or do we need to send someone up to do it?
- User: I think I can handle it…I’ll call if I have a problem..
- Me: Sure thing
This is what I have to deal with every.single.day…I hate people…
***Update*** Two times today so far this has happened. I don’t understand how these people don’t fall down more.

And this how I started my day.
- First call
- stupid user—I am getting a message saying I am am locked out. Can you help me figure out what’s going on?
- me— ummmm….you’re probably locked out. Lemme check…..Yes your account was locked out. i have unlocked you.
- Second call
- stupid user— It is still saying I am locked out.
- me— Ok, you have three chances before you’re locked out.
- stupid user— Well I only tried it twice
- me —Ok, well, it takes 3 times to lock you out.
- me—Ok, I unlocked your account again. Would you like me to reset your password
- stupid user—yes
- me —ok, I have reset your password to 1234. When you logon it will ask you to change it.
- stupid user— ok
- Third call
- stupid user —I still can’t logon
- me—You’re kidding me. Have you tried 1234?
- stupid user— yes…it still says i’m locked out.
(I check her account and sure enough it’s locked out and she hasn’t logged in, which means she didn’t try 1234)- me—Ok tell me exactly what you see on the screen.
- stupid user—It’s asking for my old password. But when i type it in it doesn’t take it. Then it’s asking me for a new password
- me—Ok, type in 1234 in the first blank and then come up with a new password that you have never used before.
- stupid user—I typed in 1234 but when I put a new password in it says they don’t match.
- me—Are you sure you’re typing in the same password on both lines.
- stupid user—yes…it still won’t take it.
- me—Ok, I want you to type apple1 in both blanks all lowercase
- stupid user—It’s still saying they don’t match up.
Sidenote: By this time I am literally beating my head on the desk. It looked as tho i was going to have to go to this person’s workstation and physically reset their password.- me—Ok, slowly type a.p.p.l.e.1 on both lines making sure your caps lock is off and the num lock key is on.
- stupid user—Ok, I think that got it. Thanks for your help
- me—ok *click*
So, seriously…This what drives people to bell towers.
And this was so stupidly perfect that it warrants creation of a new and wonderful catagory: dumbass
