So Friday really turned out to not be my day. I woke up around 3am and could feel my throat was very sore and it really hurt to swallow. I got up and got something to drink and headed back to bed hoping it was just dry and would be better when I went to work.
I woke up a bit early and hoped into the shower still feeling the sore throat and now a touch of nausea..I head into work and the longer I was at work the worse I felt. It peaked around noon and I felt like I needed to go home. I wasn’t able to think about food or even water without getting sick to my stomach again. I im’d Kate and told her I was probably going to be heading home since I wasn’t feeling well but I was going to try and stick out the day.

So today Kate and I found out that Merlin has Hip Dysplasia . He’s not even two years old yet. And from what I’ve read dogs who develop it this early means they’ve been living with the chronic pain for a lot longer than the symptoms have been showing. I feel really bad that he’s been having to deal with this for so long….To say that I’m bummed really doesn’t even begin to describe it.

I wonder why people feel the need to put an inordinate amount of punctuation in emails?????????? In my job people send in request for help………I guess they think that putting more than one question mark or exclamation mark will get their point across more clearly………Personally I hate seeing tons of punctuation in an email……It really gets under my skin!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyway…….Glad to get that off my chest!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyone else feel the same way?????????????

Never Hunger
Never Prosper
I Have Fallen Prey to Failure
Struggle Within
Triggered Again
Now the Candle Burns at Both Ends
Twisting under Schizophrenia
Falling Deep into Dementia
Old Habits Reappear
Fighting the Fear of Fear
Growing Conspiracy
Everyone’s after Me
Frayed Ends of Sanity
Hear Them Calling
Hear Them Calling Me
Birth of Terror
Death of Much More
I’m the Slave of Fear, my Captor
Never Warnings
Spreading its Wings
As I Wait for the Horror She Brings
Loss of Interest, question, wonder
Waves of Fear They Pull Me under
Old Habits Reappear
Fighting the Fear of Fear
Growing Conspiracy
Everyone’s after Me
Frayed Ends of Sanity
Hear Them Calling
Hear Them Calling Me
Into Ruin
I Am Sinking
Hostage of this Nameless Feeling
Hell Is Set Free
Flooded I’ll Be
Feel the Undertow Inside Me
Height, hell, time, haste, terror, tension
Life, death, want, waste, mass Depression
Old Habits Reappear
Fighting the Fear of Fear
Growing Conspiracy
Myself is after Me
Frayed Ends of Sanity
Hear Them Calling
Frayed Ends of Sanity
Hear Them Calling
Hear Them Calling Me

People come up and see that I’m at my desk and assume that I’m not doing anything. Nevermind that I have two 19in monitors and my laptop monitor all full. And on those two 19in monitors I have 6 desktops all of which are full..And then if I ask to wait a second so I can finish a thought or finish what I’m in the middle of doing they huff and puff like I’m sitting around with my feet up reading Digg. So damn annoying..

Hard to believe it’s been two years ago since Katrina changed a lot of lives including mine. Growing up in Mississippi I had always been exposed to hurricanes and had always heard stories from my family about Hurricane Camille since my parents were living on the gulf coast when it hit. There was no way that I could understand the power and destructive force that comes with a storm of that magnitude. The best way to explain what happened is to go back into the archives…So here are some posts leading up to Katrina and in the days after (once power was restored at the university).
August 28 2005 - Gulf Coast…Bend Over
August 28 2005 - Deceptivly-calm
After the Power Issues post we lost power. Here are some posts from when we got power back at the university.
September 03 2005 - Still Alive
September 03 2005 - Later In The Day
September 03 2005 - Still Recovering
There are a few more posts after that but those hit the heart of what happened. I didn’t blog a lot of it since it was just so damn depressing. Here are a few pics from my apt and a few from the surrounding community.
A lot has happened in the two years since Katrina. I’m in a very good place now and as much as that whole time sucked it really did lead to a lot of great things.

Kate is currently in the hospital with “early appendicitis”. Even though it was caught early it still had to be treated as if it could go at any time. The pain started on Saturday and wasn’t any better by Sunday so around 3:30pm we left for the hospital. After many tests and a wonderful CT scan with some *awesome* contrast the doctor told us what was ailing her.
The surgeon came and said that it had to come out so around 10:30pm she was wheeled up to the OR. She ended up getting bumped back a bit because of C-section that came in. Once that was done it was her turn. I would say she went in around 11:15pm. The surgeon came out at 12am and told me that everything went perfectly and that she’d be up in a room at 1230am. It ended up be closer to 1am when they wheeled her and she was wide awake and no longer in pain.
If all goes well she will be going home by noon Monday. So she’s fine and all is well. It’s really late and I’m exhausted so I’m going to bed. Hopefully this post makes sense..If not I’ll redo it sometime tomorrow.
***For those of you who read both Kate’s site and mine you will notice that I copied this directly from her site. Sorry about that…It’s 230am and I’m extremely tired.***

So I decided to put my jeep in the woods early this morning. Next thing I know a damn tree stump jumped out in from of me. It could have been a lot worse as it is I have a cracked rear axle shaft on the right side and the U-joint is a tad bit bent. It’s still drivable but “interesting” vibrations are happening. I have found a place with internet and there is a small chance it can be fixed today. I’m not holding much hope tho. I was told be prepared to pick it up in the morning. Oh well…Wheelin is no fun unless you’re breaking things I guess..

Before I left from work on Friday I grabbed one of the Verizon v620 cards that’s “supposed” to allow you broadband connectivity where ever you go..Maybe everywhere except Mississippi that is. I tried connecting from my Dad’s house, and honestly I didn’t hold much hope of it work. My cell phone barely works that and service is spotty at best. So I wasn’t surprised when it errored out. So when I went to Laurel I parked in the Wal-mart parking lot and decided to try it again. Still erroring out.. At this point I am kinda surprised that it’s not working. Laurel is fairly up2date with good cell phone service.
Currently I am sitting in JavaWerks and the damn card is still erroring out. I know there are Verizon cell towers down here…So I’m thinking about going to a Verizon store and seeing what they can tell me. I fully expect that since I’m using Linux that I will get the “I’m sorry but that’s not supported speech”. But it’s worth a try right? It would have been really nice to have broadband access from my Dad’s house. I don’t think I can make you fully understand how far out in the woods they live. You have to see it to belive it.

Thanks Uncle Sam..Between federal and state taxes I owe $243. I really don’t know what the hell I’m doing wrong. Every year my return has gotten smaller and smaller. Last year I got $15 back from federal and owed $29 on state. *sigh* I just don’t know wtf I’m missing. Everyone else I know is getting back $500-$1500 back…I’m so damn tired of dreading tax time.

This has not been the best Monday i’ve had. This weekend start with my laptop hard drive dying. No problem, it happens. I pull a drive that I had in another machine, come to find out it has bad sectors as well. Ok..So i’ll wait until I get to work to put a new drive in.
I get to work this morning and move the mouse on my desktop machine to wake it up. Nothing. I hit a key and the computer is waiting for me to put in my root password to run a manual filesystem check. Not good…So I put in my password and try and let the filesystem check do it’s thing. I go to reboot and get the message “There are no linux partitions on this drive”. Great!!!! So now I have no desktop machine or laptop. And to make things better my desktop wasn’t backed up. Aaaaaand this is the machine I use for building rpm’s and doing basic development work. So basically 7 months of work is gone. It’s my own fault for not backing up. I just kept putting it off and putting it off.
So my day was spent rebuilding my laptop and desktop. I did have a backup of my laptop at work current as of Friday. And at home I had run a backup Saturday. So all in all my laptop will be ok..But my desktop is completely lost.
Can I have a do-over??

A very good friend of mine who has been going thru a lot lately has decided to leave the Matrix for a while. While I don’t like this decision, I do support her in this. Hopefully she can find the peace that she needs quickly…
